11. Shibori Beaded Cuff with Lee Castle from Queensland

This bead embroidered cuff has a centrepiece of a Luna Soft glass cabochon. These cabochons have a beautiful matt finish and a silver backing that makes the colour glow from within. Teamed with the cabochon is a beautiful Shibori ribbon by Glennis Dolce from Shibori Girl Studio. The Shibori ribbon is a bias cut silk that has been hand dyed using the age old Japanese Shibori technique involving pleating and pole wrapping then dying and over dying.

Multiple layers of hand painted muslin lie underneath a trio of Shibori ribbon, overdyed threads, Swarovski crystal bicones, seed beads, sequins and beautiful peyote beaded fans. Modified peyote-stitched fans rim an edge of manipulated muslin that is topped with segments of Shibori ribbon. Seed beads, Swarovski crystal bicones and sequins edge and surround the ribbon. Textural thread work adds depth and dimension to the whole piece.

The squirrel is worked over felt padding in silk shading and then needle sculpted to create his life like body. The fluffy tail is made using velvet stitch.
